Last month I explained that Gozenshu’s “The Silence” line up was proving so popular with trade customer that I couldn’t list it on the website but I promised it wold be available in February 2020! Well, I’m afraid, I have to go back on that promise – but all is not lost! Let me explain below.
Gozenshu are discontinuing their “The Silence” series and have made no more this brewing year (winter 2019). “The Silence” was always an experimental range of sakes to test the market (both domestically and internationally) and, after much testing, Gozenshu’s CEO, Tsuji-san, has decided to redefine Gozenshu’s brand under the following simple precepts: 100% omachi and 100% bodaimoto.
Gozenshu will also, over the next few years, undergo a rebranding to bring all their various sakes under the Gozenshu banner. The first items to emerge with the new branding will be called “Gozenshu 1859“, so chosen to commemorate the year Omachi was discovered. At the moment I am unsure whether all current Gozenshu products will adopt the “Gozenshu 1859” brand, I think Tsuji-san is still working out exactly what he wants to do.
Anyway, Cry Baby was the most popular sake in “The Silence” range and so the 1st “Gozenshu 1859” sake is very similar: Junmai Muroka Nama Genshu, 65% polished, 100% Okayama Omachi, 16% ABV, only this time Bodaimoto (Cry Baby was Sokujo). It is called “Prototype”, it’s going to be awesome.
